Molecular genetic analysis of maize

A molecular genetic study of maize was carried out at the Agricultural University - Plovdiv under the project "Sustainable management and use of genetic resources of maize and perennial cereal grasses in connection with global climate change and ensuring food security" No. KP06N96/8, funded by the Scientific Research Fund. The study, conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariana Petkova and Asst. Prof. Juliana Yordanova, is focused on the isolation and analysis of DNA for the purpose of genetic profiling of the plant material.

In the course of the work, standardized laboratory approaches for extraction and purification of genetic material, applied in modern plant molecular genetics, were used.

The data obtained provide a basis for subsequent studies of genetic diversity and for the establishment of specific markers, with application in scientific activity and the practice of crop plant selection.
